My Favorite Brunette
Funnyman Bob Hope teams up with Dorothy Lamour in this witty and entertaining send-up of the hardboiled detective genre. Ronnie Jackson (Hope), a baby photographer-turned-gumshoe, by chance encounters a mysterious femme fatale, played by Dorothy Lamour. In another case of mistaken identity, she engages Ronnie to solve a mystery. Before he knows it, Ronnie is caught up in a perilous case of intrigue. The game turns deadly when Peter Lorre and Lon Chaney intervene, playing classic villians to Hope's slapstick humor. See if you can spot Bing Crosby in a brief cameo role.

1947 / B & W / 87 Minutes
Starring Bob Hope, Dorothy
Lamour, Peter Lorre

The Inspector General
Fans of the great film comedian Danny Kaye will be sure to love The Inspector General. Danny sings and dances his way through predicaments of honor and amour in this 1949 hit comedy. Georgi (Kaye) and Yakov (Slezak) play a pair of mismatched snake-oil salesmen on the lam. Georgi is jailed for vagrancy and then mistaken for the Inspector General, who is making an unannounced visited to the village. The corrupt mayor (Alan Hale, the Skipper from Gilligan's Island) is a perfect foil for Kaye. The laughs really get rolling as Georgi tries to put things right, including the rescue of the village's pipe organ. Along the way, Georgi finds intrigue and romance, and of course, sets things straight, and gets the girl!

1949 / Color / 102 Minutes
Starring Danny Kaye, Elsa
Lanchester, Allan Hale, John
Carradine, Walter Slezak and
Barbara Bates

My Dear Secretary
When best-selling author Owen Waterbury (Kirk Douglas), who has an eye for the ladies, engages a beautiful and brainy woman to be his secretary, he gets more than than he bargained for. Stephanie Gaylord (Laraine Day) is the aspiring writer who won't be easily won over by Waterbury's attempts at romance, or those of his pal Ronnie (Keenan Wynn). An unusual role for Kirk Douglas, this 'battle of the sexes' comedy has a light touch, and many fine performances. Keenan Wynn is especially well cast as the friend.

1948 / B & W / 87 Minutes
Starring Kirk Douglas, Laraine
Day and Keenan Wynn
