Plenty of musical styles came and went during the ‘60s heyday of the San Francisco rock scene but one of the most musically interesting and professional was the Latin-influenced music of Santana created by leader, Carlos Santana. While other bands of that San Francisco era, like the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service and many others were offering different rock attitudes, Santana was offering rhythmic music that could almost lull its audience, yet doing it with an understated fire accentuated by Santana’s guitar and his ideas of percussion.
