Set in Virginia City, Nevada in the 1860s, the series chronicles the adventures of Ben Cartwright (Lorne Greene), owner of the Ponderosa Ranch, and his three sons, Adam (Pernell Roberts), Hoss (Dan Blocker) and Little Joe (Michael Landon). Each exciting episode finds the Cartwrights coping with western-style moral issues of good and evil, right and wrong. As with all strong families, there is a great love and trust between them and they find time for humor in almost every situation. In fact, the playfulness and sense of humor of the cast is one of Bonanza's strong points.
