Andy Griffith, the good old Sheriff of sleepy Mayberry, North Caarolina, made his first appearance on the Danny Thomas Show in February of 1960. An immediate hit, Andy soon had his own comedy program, The Andy Griffith Show. It was the first of the rural oriented televsion comedies, and some say it was the best. Featuring Andy as a widower raising his son Opie (Ron Howard), townsfolk included his cousin and Deputy, Barney Fife (Don Knotts), and Aunt Bra (Francis Bavier). The laughs come mostly from Barney, a frustrated and inept policeman in a town without crime, and Andy, who has to use all of his patience and homespun wisdom to keep Barney out of trouble while raising Opie. Aunt Bea is the pillar of strength and understanding. There are wonderful guest appearances in the series, including Jim Nabors, Ellen Corby, and John Dehner, and a whole town full of wonderful characters. Let The Andy Griffith Show take you back to a time of innocence and good old values, set in rural America of the not-so-long-ago.
