Three-dog night is an Aussie expression that means its cold outside! The colder the night, the more dogs needed to keep warm. It is also the name of the band that formed in 1968 with three lead vocalists named Danny Hutton, Cory Wells and Chuck Negron. The rest of the band members were Jim Greenspoon on organ, Joe Schermie on bass, Mike Allsup on guitar and Floyd Sneed on drums. From 1969 to 1972, Three Dog Night had a streak of top ten albums that included: "Captured Live at the Forum," "It Ain't Easy," "Golden Biscuits," "Harmony," and "Seven Separate Fools." Their hit singles, 21 in all, included: "One," "Eli's Coming," "Mama Told Me Not to Come," "Joy To The World," "An Old Fashioned Love Song," and "Black and White." In 1977, Three Dog Night broke up, and Hutton, Negron and Wells went forward to try to develop their solo careers. Hutton managed a few punk bands, Wells became a sports writer, and Chuck Negron battled a legendary drug addiction that nearly killed him; he survived to help others avoid his fate. Hutton and Wells reunited and reformed Three Dog Night in 1981. Two years later, their hit song, "Joy to the World," was featured in the movie "The Big Chill." Since 1986, Three Dog Night has toured regularly with original members: Cory Wells, Danny Hutton, Jim Greenspoon and Michael Allsup. New to the band are Pat Bautz (drums) and Paul Kingery (bass). Sadly, original bass player, Joe Schermie died in 2002 of natural causes. In the new millennium, Three Dog Night has performed their old hits backed by the Tennessee Symphony Orchestra (2000). The most impressive story has been Chuck Negron's recovery and resurrection of his career. Chuck has written the autobiography, "Three Dog Nightmare" and released three new albums, "The Long Road Back" (1999), "Joy to the World" (2001) and an outstanding live album, "Chuck Negron Live in Concert." In 2004, the band released a new greatest hits CD, "Three Dog Night: The Complete Hit Singles." "We've been on a mission in a way," says Three Dog Night singer Danny Hutton in an interview with CNN.com to promote the CD. "We're trying to get people to realize our place in history, how popular we were. We've kind of been buried."
