The voice is instantly recognizable. He brought "If Ever I Would Leave You" to the stage in 1960 in the hit musical "Camelot" and with his emotional baritone charming audiences ever since, you cannot miss Robert Goulet. Starring roles in many theatrical works made Goulet a hit even before the momentous "Camelot" strode onto Broadway. Goulet was born November 26, 1933 in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Though born in Massachusetts, his parents were French-Canadian and he is still looked upon up north as Canadian. He began singing at age five when relatives put him in an Al Jolson persona. The noisy applause scared him and gave him a longtime fear of performing in public. He somehow conquered that, of course, and by 18 was singing in musical theater. He got his first singing job at 16 with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and then did two years as a radio announcer before winning a singing scholarship to the University of Toronto. He appeared in Canadian productions of shows "South Pacific" and "Finian's Rainbow" and subsequently appeared in dozens of shows, including his Sir Lancelot role in "Camelot." He has returned to "Camelot" several times but later as King Arthur in 1992-94 and 1998. His many other shows include "Man of La Mancha," "Carousel," "Bells Are Ringing," and "The Happy Time," in which he won a Tony award. Goulet has also won a Grammy award and has recorded some 60 albums over the years as well as performing on television and in movies. The Ed Sullivan show was a favorite, Goulet appearing 17 times in that popular variety series from an entertainment galaxy far, far away. In recent years, he has been in some popular television commercials and made waves with his Wheezy role in "Toy Story II", singing "You've Got a Friend In Me." A resident of Las Vegas, Goulet keeps involved with the local arts community there and takes part in many charitable causes. He is also a spokesman for the American Cancer Society, lecturing about his bout and survival with prostate cancer in recent years. He is also the father of three and has two grandchildren.
