Percy Faith
Love & Romance | 3 CD Set Reg. $24.99 ON SALE! $19.99
Percy Faith began his musical life as a child prodigy on the piano but when an accident that cut his hands also cut short a promising performing career, he took to arranging and conducting. As a young man, Faith got into radio in its early stages by doing arrangements for orchestras. He developed a style that was seen as creative in a pop sense in the '40s. By the '60s and rock n' roll, his work continued to please older fans but was beginning to be seen as somewhat stodgy by young people who were into the sounds of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. In the 50's, Faith was working at RCA Victor, Decca and then Columbia, bringing to the public the first recorded collections of songs from hit Broadway musical shows. His talent for arranging put him in film scores and he won a Grammy in 1960 for "Theme From a 'Summer Place'," following that in 1969 with a Grammy for his vocal arrangement of "Love Theme From 'Romeo and Juliet.'" Percy Faith's ideal was easy-listening and he was a master at it. Even as popular tastes were into more rock-influenced music, his arrangements continued to be of high quality in that easy-listening format.
